Fall Winter Spring Summer • On Cushing's meds but still foot sore • Chronic sore feet • Laminitis • Elevated insulin levels • Can't be on pasture • Painful feet on hard or frozen ground • Easy keeper staying large on little food • Senior horse health issues • Rotated on X-ray • Cresty neck • Founder history is the #1 Fastest Growing Cause of Laminitis in the World EquinE insulin REsistancE q Did you know? Is this your horse? I s t h i s y o u r h o r s e ? Is this your horse? Developed by Dr. Frank Reilly, DVM to treat the rapidly growing number of horses suffering from chronic sore feet with high insulin levels. After two years & hundreds of insulin tests, Dr. Reilly discovered the right combination & con- centrations of organicals to make horses more comfortable and help get them back on grass pasture where they were born to graze & play. Dr. Reilly is also the "Ask The Vet" expert on Equine Insulin Resistance for the AAEP. - l a n d HEIRO helps fght laminar injury and stops foot pain caused by seasonal factors • CuShIng'S – 2 ways Insulin Resistance is linked with Cushing's: 1. Many with diagnosed Cushing's also have Insulin Resistance but this second condition is not diagnosed, so on Pergolide but still does not do well. 2. Recent study shows Cushing's in horses is massively under diagnosed, so if these are missed, then more are missed with both Cushing's and Insulin Resistance. • LaMInItIS – Acute or chronic. Repeat episodes over the years, pasture turnout stopped but still happens, secondary to Cush- ing's disease, more often in ponies, occurs in the middle of the winter when there is no grass around. The horse only gets hay and no grain and still happens. • OVeRWeIght – Either by diet, lack of exercise, or genetics. 25% of horses with Insulin Resistance due to genetics. On no grain or little grain and stays big, exercise & still big. Cresty neck often seen. • age – As horses get older, they lose muscle & gain fat. Fat production goes way up in Insulin Resistance because Insulin makes fat and fat produces toxins leading to an increase in Insulin. Also as horses age, Cushing's incidence goes up. • CeRtaIn bReeDS – Breeds that were designed for a rugged existence seem to be more susceptible due to today's easier surroundings. These breeds include Quarter Horses, Morgans, Paso Finos, Mustangs, Pony breeds, Tennessee Walkers and Rocky Moun- tain Horses. SIgnS yOuR hORSe May be InSuLIn ReSIStant: • FatIgue – Cannot exercise as well as in the past. They become dull and resist riders. • genetICS – The National Institute of Health (NIH) has shown a genetic trait in Insulin Resistance. Often the mare or stallion had Insu- lin Resistance and now the offspring start to show signs. • hIStORy behInD the hORSe The previous owner warns the new owner that the animal must live on a dirt lot and never be turned out. They are the horses who are fed very little food and stay "fat on air." Sometimes Pergolide helped in the past but is no longer effective. • FaLL/WInteR FOOt paIn Even with no grass in sight, the feet get sore. Less exercise, loss of fresh grass, vitamins/ magnesium, cold stress, cortisol increase, seasonal ACTH increase, longer fasting periods between food intake all contribute. • abnORMaLLy FOOt SORe After routine trimmings by Farrier. Takes several days after scheduled trimmings to recover sound- ness. This is an Insulin problem not a bad trim job. The Farrier is the key to a successful program. • genetIC LOCk – Diet/exercise is not controlling Insulin. Owners have tried multiple management techniques but the horse is still foot sore, has repeat laminitis, can't be turned out on grass, & stays big on little food. Also the horse is a candidate for future problems and the owner would like to avoid a problem instead of waiting for the problem to occur. These are the horses the HEIRO program can help. This is my product of choice that actually does what it says it will do. My Cushing's horse was so lame and laying down all the time, unable to walk, and was in such pain that we decided to put her down, but in- stead, tried her on HEIRO to give her another chance. Less than a week on HEIRO she responded so well and started running around, kicking up her heels and you could tell she felt so much better and there was no way she would have to be put down. She does not even lay down any more and whin- nies and bucks and runs out to the pasture. This is truly a blessing to see her do this since her life hung by a string. She is feeling like a youngster again. Your product saved her life and I thank you for this…" Linda, PA Horses heIRO Frost, ACTH Surge New grass Heat Cold stress; Hard, frozen ground
