The Horse: Your Guide To
Equine Health Care
The Horse is an all-breed, all-discipline equine
education provider for hands-on participants
in the horse industry. It will disseminate the
latest and most reliable news and information
on the health, care, management, and welfare
of equids through print and electronic means.
THIS MONTH'S CONTRIBUTORS
Maureen Blaney Flietner
is a freelance writer, photographer, and de-
signer who has owned and cared for horses
for more than 30 years on her Wisconsin
farmette.
Sarah Evers Conrad
is an equestrian journalist living in Lex-
ington, Kentucky. She has worked on staff
at The Horse, Equestrian, and the United
States Equestrian Federation and now
owns All In Stride Marketing. When she
isn't freelancing, Conrad spends her time
enjoying her family, reading, practicing pho-
tography, traveling, crocheting, and being
around animals.
Kristen Janicki, MS, PAS
is a freelance nutrition writer and the tech-
nical marketing and nutritional services
coordinator with Buckeye Nutrition. She
resides in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
Christa Lesté-Lasserre, MA,
is a freelance writer specializing in equine
topics. A native Texan, she rides English,
breeds Warmbloods, and raises three
young equestrians in Paris, France.
Sue McDonnell, PhD, Cert. AAB,
is the founding head of the Equine Behav-
ior Program at the University of Pennsylva-
nia School of Veterinary Medicine.
Stacey Oke, DVM, MSc,
is a freelance medical writer based out
of Saratoga Springs, New York. Her areas
of interest are nutrition, supplements,
and osteoarthritis, and she contributes to
scientific journals, magazines, and tabloid
publications.
Diane Rice
is a freelance writer, editor, proofreader,
and photographer living in Nampa, Idaho.
She has also served on the board of direc-
tors for American Horse Publications. In her
spare time she enjoys gardening, reading,
and spending time with her daughters,
grandchildren, and pets.

is the Mary Anne McPhail Dressage Chair
in equine sports medicine at Michigan
State University's College of Veterinary
Medicine, in East Lansing.
