In December 2014 TheHorse.com debuted its first longform,
"Beasts of Burden," about how research teams are working to con-
trol disease in Africa's working equid population. The poignant piece
expanded upon a story Editor-in-Chief Stephanie L. Church wrote for
the magazine earlier in the year, using illustrations, videos, and other
extensive imagery to illustrate the donkeys' and horses' plights.
Soon we will be rolling out another two longforms—one chronicles
the U.S. introduction and spread of West Nile virus. It reads like a
mystery but leaves readers with a much deeper understanding of the
potentially fatal zoonotic disease. The other longform is an inspiring
tale of donkeys living in excess and in want, and how people are turn-
ing the small-but-mighty animals' welfare issues around.
Longform: A full-length multimedia online
feature that tells a story using visual and
interactive elements to support the text.
